Review: Sentient

Title: Sentient by Kenechi Udogu
Pages: 155
Rating: 3.5 stars

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This book picks up from where Aversion left off. Gemma has now returned to Sandes without her father because they think that this will keep her safe. She is now living with Mrs. Burlington who she averted to make her think that she is her ward. Gemma has to stay safe while also finding ways to control her ever growing powers.

A new character, in fact a few more characters are introduced in this book but I think Laura was the most important at least for now. She is an empath who has been sent by Gemma’s dad to help her with her abilities.

Gemma like many other characters I have read is turning out to be some kind of special snowflake in this book. She is suddenly displaying all these abilities which no one has ever seen before, which makes her very dangerous and important. Everyone is looking for her in order to bring her to their side. She is in the center of two incidents, both involving other mentalists with the last one turning out to be more dangerous.

Sentient was admittedly better than the first book. For one, the characters were so much better. There was visible character development especially when it came to Gemma and her dad. Laura was my favorite character in this book. Her fun and bubbly personality was a wonderful addition to the book. Just like in the first book a lot happens in the span of a few pages so be aware that this is a fast paced book.

There are a lot of things which are yet to be revealed so I am off to read the next book. I would recommend this book to YA, Paranormal  book lovers.
